About the Designer

Project Laika came about as a result of wanting to expand the Raspberry Pi without using the GPIO port.  Since that humble vision and long months of development Laika was finally realised in the autumn of 2013.

After studying Electronics Engineering & Computer Science at University, I began working in the electronics industry and have been for over 10 years. I have been employed by companies designing products in many different markets ranging from automotive, care and security. My last product I designed as an employee was very successful, and so, with this confidence I decided to take the plunge and set up in business myself. Since 2012 I have been working as a contract Electronics Engineer and have been involved in some very interesting and diverse work, which is one of the advantages of contracting: the fact that I can be working on two utterly different projects from one day to the next. As a result of this, my range of skills have increased significantly over the last two years, and the work gets ever more interesting.

As is so common these days, sometimes our day jobs overlap into our hobbies, and so when I joined Nottingham Sailing Club, I upgraded their sailing controller and timer with my own design, and being in business I decided to make it a production design.  You can find out more about the RC-PRO Race Controller & Timer at the RC-PRO website.

During this time I have been working on Laika, a project to bring control of real-world devices into the classroom.
